Rodeo Harnes Strap Modification

After about 12 hours of flying I noticed that the threads on my right hand strap were starting to fray.  This seems to be happening due to the strap rubbing on a retaining clip as the canopy pulls the strap upwards as it starts generating lift.  To prevent this I bought some UMHW tape and wrapped it into a tube around the area that is rubbing on the harness strap.   The UMHW has adhesive on one side so this should allow it to stay in the tube shape I rolled it into.  I have about 50 feet of it so I can make plenty more if it needs to be replaced at some point.  I’m hoping that this will prevent any more chaffing of the harness.

Walk-On Trailer Ramp Springs Part 2

What a life I must have when I get excited about springs!  If you’ll remember from two posts ago (not that far back to remember is it?) I added a spring to the ramp on my walk-on trailer that I used to haul my PPG trike.  The ramp is just heavy enough to cause me much groanage when lifting it back up to close it.   So I added a spring to help with the lifting.  While this did help, it didn’t help to the extent I wanted.   So…  I added another spring!  And this has helped tremendously!  If anyone has one of these trailers, I highly recommend adding a couple of springs to help lift the ramp.   Even if you have a strong back.

Here’s some video with some blathering…

Walk-on Trailer Ramp Spring

It seems like the ramp on the trailer I used to transport my PPG trike gets heavier and heavier each time I have to open or close it.  To save my back I attached a spring to one side.  However, that only helped a little.  I’m going to have to attach another spring on the other side.  Here are some moving pictures that describe what I did…

Trailer Latch Repair

trailer

I bought a small, walk-on trailer from Tractor Supply Company to transport my PPG Trike without having to take it apart.    For the most part it’s been a pretty good little trailer, always following me where ever I go.  Just like a little puppy dog.  Anyway, yesterday as I was lowering the ramp to offload my trike, one of the latch pins just snapped in half!  It broke where a roll pin was inserted to retain the spring that retains the pin.

Well, that didn’t stop my from flying yesterday but I had to Gerry-rig the ramp to make sure it didn’t snap the other latch pin and fall on my trike or on the highway.  Today I made the repair.  I found out they call these cane bolts at the hardware store.  I found a long one that is used as a door latch.  I cut it to length and drilled a new hole for the roll pin.  After putting it all back together it looks like it came with the trailer!

For future reference, here is the part I used to make the repair…
